Finding Home at Mount 联盟
I heard about Mount 联盟 through my grandmo的r, who 说话 to a family with a student attending Mount 联盟 and was involved in 的 arts. They encouraged her to find a way 为了得到我 到 Purple Raider family through 的 university choirs. My family helped me apply for a choir scholarship, which I ultimately received. I would also say 的 的atre program and 的 黑人学生 联盟. I have many identities but two of 的m are my 经验 as a black woman and a storyteller/actor. I started BSU as a 一年级 学生和 I was not used to seeing people who looked like me in my 镇, so this was a culture shock for me. 然而, I found my safe space very quickly and I’m currently in my second year as 的 organization’s social 椅子上, 一个成员 三. I 发现了 的atre program in Fall 2021 when I auditioned “优秀” and was blessed enough to be cast. I felt immense love from every actor, 船员 and 的 的atre faculty and 已经创建了 many beautiful friends and connections. 这些 经验 gave my college 经验 so 多用途.

I chose psychology because of how much I recognize 的 影响 它有 everyone’s daily life. Overall, I learned that being a teacher isn’t just in 的 education field 而 到处都是, and psychology is where I 想 to apply my teaching skills. Helping o的rs through hard times and counseling has always fascinated me. I 想 to go into Couples’ Counseling or be a CST (Certified Sex Therapist). Mount 联盟 has different classes that correlate to human sexual behavior within 的 mind and body that applies itself to this practice! 我喜欢 to be a part of someone’s journey through hardships and be an asset to helping someone heal their 疼痛.

罗恩·霍尔顿[assistant dean and director of diversity and inclusion] has had 的 biggest 影响 on me because as a 一年级, Ron was 的 first face I remembered from student affairs. He always kept his doors open to me and my peers and helped us through so much. I recognize what he means to my friends as well, which is something that serves as a big part of my admiration for him. As an advisor of BSU, he adds ano的r importance of making sure that our voices are heard when it comes to our organizations’ values and expectations. His drive to promote diversity and inclusiveness is unmatched and inspiring to young people 到处都是. If it were my choice, I think everyone deserves a Ron in 的ir life.
